Bible commandment or custom regarding burial?

When my cousin's father passed away, he was cremated instead of buried. A few older family members claimed that the Bible backs up burial, but mentions the burning of the dead in a negative light- I am guessing this has to do with Jewish custom vs. how other peoples laid to rest their loved ones? Any one have any Bible passages that elude to either one being right or wrong?
